General Membership Meeting of the Vernon Placer Miners Club

Met March 7 2023 at the Hall at 1204 30th Ave, Vernon BC. President Gerry Morrison opened the meeting at 7:02 PM. Note-taker was Cal Olsson. Theree was 18 members including two newly renewed members,Rita and Bill Dryer in attendance. The minutes of the last meeting were read. After a few corrections , Rick Peterson moved the minutes be accepted as read , seconded by Attila Vasarhelyi , voted on, passed.

President Gerry received call from Capri Agent ( now called Acera Insurrance) to renew the Insurance coverage for the Miners Association. Gerry was able to get back to her and get coverage back up to commercial standard for an extra $26.00 to $1, 876.00. Our events will now be covered as well; good news.

There is a common dues due date of October first. Dues are $20.00 per year per family, Oct. to Oct.

Old Business Arising out of Last Meeting’s Minutes:

Both Ken Montie and Gerry Morrison have lined up engravers so getting someone to engrave the trophy silver plates for the BC Open champions is assured.

Donna Smith has got in touch with local paper and they will put press release for the BC Open in the paper if she

brings in samples of pictures and a bit of a write up to go in the paper, which she is going to do.

Gerry Morrison is getting in touch with Enderby Fire Chief Cliff 250- 253-7828 to fill up the panning tubs at the BC Open..

BC Open Comittee Report by Gerry Morrison, Donna Smith,

BC Open World Gold Panning Championships to take place Saturday May 20, and Sunday may 21,2023. Set up on friday May19th.

Ken Montie has donated to the club gold nugget prizes from his own reserves so there will be third prizes in the Championship Gold Panning.

BC Open Attendees to book their own sites at Enderby Riverside RV Park or make own arrangements for staying over; talk to Victoria. Note: the park is completely run now by the City of Enderby.

Sherri LaValley has volunteered to be a gold panning judge at the BC Open.

The music folks Jack Perry and his wife Ester have volunteered to do the music at the BC Open.

The BC Open Steering Committtee will meet again before the event to see critical path is on track . For example one of the things they will be discussing will be whether to have a Texas Mickey prize for silent auction .

Need a volunteer to check if we can get the led highway sign in Enderby to say BC Open is on during the event.

We need volunteers for this year’s BC Open Gold Panning Championships. Please consider giving a hand to help?

New Business:

Gerry Morrison or volunteer designate to have Fire Chief Cliff 250-253-7828 lined up to fill up the panning tubs.

Donna Smith volunteered to get as much advertising for the open as she can.

There is going to be a Gold Panning reserve put in the Barkerville area according to CMA news letter. We can have a club road trip to this reseve, once set up.

President Morrison to check if Lion’s club would be putting on Communiy pancake breakfast during BC Open.

With our new insurance there is renewed interest in members attending Lumby Days event on June 9th , 10th and 11th. Gerry

Morrison is going to check with Ken and Didi Caldwell about us doing a learn to pan booth.

Announcements.

Kim Creed has volunteered to make up some chuckwagon booths to operate during the BCOpen. They would provide drygoods for attendees if I heard right he’ll have some comic gold panning figures you can put your face in to get your picture took. Kim is an expert at this sort of thing so let’s give him all the support and encouragement we can.

Outing to claim on the Kettle River June 2,3,4 for prospecting panning. Pick and shovel provided . Phone Rancid Crabtree at 250-766-4071 for details.

Club discussing where to have outings this season. Rock Creek, Greenwood days, Washington Gold Prospectors in Oroville, Spences Bridge if highway 8 is open, If you have a favorite let us know.

Donna brought 3 gold related geocaching trackable coins for show and tell. Now its time others did too.

Attila Vasarhelyi won the first nugget door prize, and Gerry Morrison the second.

Rita Dreier won the 50/50 draw $25.00. and the cookie tin consolation prize.
